Statement:

A generation of our contemporary artists instead of being in search of decorative combinations in their works, show a different concern that leads them to paint the current world.

Taking a look at the world as narrated in the works of Mitra Kavian, reveals this search. Groups of men and women on pavements, banquets, food spreads, flocking at night, men amd women standing on the background with chandeliers, mysterious repetative symbols, food dishes, the Last Supper, the Contemporary Christ, … the meaning of each of which can be understood by entering a space where all the parts and symbols can be undrestood when put near one another.

The social setting on these paintings is made in the simplest technical ways. They have clear contours, colorful surfaces that are often flat together with a movement back and forth to and from realism and abstract. From the viewpoint of emphasis her works are very similar to the world famous artists such as German Max Beckmann and other German painters between the two World Wars.

The distinct features of Mitra Kavian works merit to be considered as something new in the realm of defined and classified Iranian contemporary art. This is a major achievement that calls for contemplation.
